Forum Topic: Lasix from Mexico - Is it Safe?

Post #1 by SunShine23 (08-15-2023 09:14 AM)

Hey everyone,

I recently found out I need to take Lasix for my high blood pressure and swelling. My friend recommended getting it from Mexico because it's cheaper there. Has anyone tried this before? Is it safe?

Hello SunShine23,

Thanks for reaching out. Its important to be cautious about purchasing medications from foreign sources, including Mexico. There are several safety concerns and legal issues you should consider.

Hi DrSmoothie,

Thank you for your response! I'm worried about the risks too, but it's hard to afford everything here. Could you tell me more about these concerns?

Absolutely SunShine23,

Sure thing. First and foremost, the quality of medications from foreign countries can vary significantly. There are no guarantees that the Lasix you buy will have been manufactured in accordance with FDA standards. This means it might contain different ingredients or dosages than what's prescribed.

Another issue is legality. Importing prescription drugs into the U.S. without a proper prescription can be illegal and could result in fines if caught by customs. Also, keep in mind that insurance companies typically won't cover medications purchased outside the country.

DrSmoothie,

That's really helpful information. So, should I stick to getting it from my local pharmacy even though its more expensive? Are there any other options for cheaper alternatives?

SunShine23,

I would recommend sticking with a licensed pharmacist and making sure the medication is FDA-approved. It may be more expensive, but it's safer for your health.

As for cheaper alternatives, you could try exploring options like generic versions of Lasix (furosemide). Often, generics cost less while providing the same therapeutic benefit as brand-name drugs. You might also consider looking into patient assistance programs offered by pharmaceutical companies or searching for coupons and rebates online.

DrSmoothie,

Thank you so much! I'll definitely look into generics and see if there are any assistance programs available. Its reassuring to know there are safer options even though they might not be as cheap.
